South Coast NSW Regional Women's Business Gathering - Case Study

The Community Solutions Fund has provided funds to the South Coast Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation to establish and develop the South Coast Aboriginal Holistic Healing Service Substance Use for Aboriginal families and communities along the South Coast of New South Wales.

One of the first initiatives of the Service was to hold the South Coast Regional Women’s Business Gathering at Jervis Bay in October 2002. Over 40 Aboriginal women attended from Moruya, Wollongong, Wreck Bay, Shoalhaven, Narooma, Bodalla, Mogo and Wallaga Lake.

A number of workshops were conducted over three days including Self-Esteem, Recovering from Family Violence, Healing from Grief and Loss – Our Journey of Healing, Living With and Without Substances, Understanding and Supporting our People from the Stolen Generation.

“This camp has made me stronger to help my people and do my job even better and to help our younger generation."
