$533,752 has been approved to the Gosford Peninsula community for a range of crime prevention and community development strategies over three years from 2002 - 2005.

All of the initiatives funded in the Gosford Peninsula have been identified through working with the local community.

Community organisations, Local Government and State Government agencies worked to together to find solutions to priority issues affecting the Gosford Peninsula. The government met with community organisations, government service agencies and the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce to identify priority issues that needed to be addressed and to agree on initiatives that would assist to solve those issues.

The initiatives will address these issues identified by the community:

  • Youth crime rates
  • Providing positive recreation and social activities for young people
  • Domestic violence
  • Preventing drug and alcohol abuse

  • Access to services and facilities
  • Improve coordination of Government services

The initiatives that will support crime prevention and community development on the Gosford Peninsula are:

  • $197,980 to establish a Domestic Violence Program for the whole of the Central Coast, covering both the Gosford & Wyong Local Government Areas. This program would involve approximately 100 people per year in eight courses.
  • $250,772 to employ a Place Manager for the Peninsula, to be employed by Gosford City Council to focus on, youth issues, older people in the community, economic development and job growth. This position would work with the large number of young and older people living on the Peninsula.
  • $15,000 to develop peer education and mentoring resources as well as conduct drug free dance parties for young people on the Peninsula. This would target approximately 20 young people to act as peer educators and mentors for students in Years 7 and 8 at the local high school.
  • $70,000 to extend the Vehicle Share Scheme (being established under the Wyong Community Solutions package) to include the Peninsula in the trial. The initiative will improve access to transport for people on the Peninsula.
