Working Together for NSW: An Agreement between the NSW Government and the NSW Non Government Human Services Sector

In June 2006 the NSW Government and the NSW Non Government Human Services Sector began to implement the Working Together for NSW Agreement. The Agreement was developed jointly by the the non-government sector through the Forum of Non Government Agencies (FONGA) and by the NSW Government, through the Premier’s Department and the Human Services Chief Executive Officers (HSCEOs) group.

The Working Together for NSW Agreement provides a framework to help ensure the quality of human services delivery for the people of NSW by providing a set of shared goals, values and principles that guide working relationships between the two sectors.   The purpose of this Agreement is to strengthen the ability of the NSW Government and non-Government human services organisations to achieve better outcomes for individuals, families and communities.

For the first year of implementation, Government and non government sector representatives from the organisations that development of the Agreement resolved to:

  • Investigate, develop and implement a number of initiatives designed to strengthen the internal capacities of the diverse non government human services sector in NSW, to assist non government organisations to flourish in the provision of key social and community services and community development initiatives in local communities across the State: and
  • Examine effective ways to engage non government organisations in the local and regional planning and priority setting processes of NSW Government human services agencies, with a particular focus on integrating efforts across agencies and sectors, for the benefit of consumers and local communities, in the planning activities

The NSW Government and NSW non government sector representatives also committed to informing the public and non government sectors over the next 12 months about the Working Together for NSW Agreement.

Regular progress reports will be made to both the Human Services Chief Executive Officers group, representing the NSW Government and the Forum of Non Government Agencies (FONGA), the key forum for peak and Statewide non government human services organisations that is serviced by the Council of Social Service of NSW (NCOSS).
