Rural Women's Network

The Rural Women's Network is a program within the NSW Department of Primary Industries which represents, supports and advocates for rural women.

The Rural Women's Network (RWN) aims to:

  • Provide an interface between the government and the community on priority issues affecting rural women.
  • Empower rural women to achieve their own goals.

The Network evolved from a Rural Women's Conference in Parkes in 1991 when rural women expressed a need for more opportunities to share ideas, access information and have a voice in decision making.

Rural women have identified a range of priority issues which include isolation, health, education, lack of services, family and broader community issues. The RWN works with other agencies and groups to stimulate action to address these issues. RWN also works with rural women themselves - enhancing their skills, knowledge and confidence and their access to information and support, so they too can stimulate action and address these issues.

The Rural Women's Network:

  • Works with rural women and their families
  • Provides information and referrals
  • Consults on important issues
  • Addresses concerns and needs
  • Develops projects with other agencies
  • Promotes the participation of rural women
  • Builds communication networks
  • Advises on policy.
