Country Transport Information Database

Provides convenient web-based access to information on all transport services in country NSW for the first time.

Through the Country Transport Database useful transport information including transport services for the community, transport planning data and a transport resource kit are available for New South Wales.

The database includes:

Transport Service Information

Over 1.7 million people in country communities can now access information on bus, coach, rail, air, taxi, hire car and community transport services in over 470 centres, through the Transport Infoline website (see below).

Professionals can use this service information and data on local measures of transport demand to improve transport services.

The Transport Infoline website has been expanded to include information on transport services - including rail, coach, bus, taxi, hire car and community transport services.  The information covers all of country NSW outside the Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong metropolitan regions.

  • There are links to timetable information for scheduled services, and contact information for other transport services.
  • There is information on transport connections to the nearest larger town.

These web pages provide an opportunity for country communities to promote local transport services via the internet.  This can be arranged by:

  • Links from local websites, such as Council, transport operators or Visitor Information Centres (VIC), and
  • Local information officers, such as Council or VIC staff can also access this information for advice to customers in person or by phone.

Transport Planning Information

Provides transport planning data to professionals, to enable efficient analysis of transport provision compared to demand measures , such as:

  • population growth,
  • age profile,
  • disability levels,
  • Aboriginal and culturally diverse backgrounds,
  • unemployment rate,
  • socio-economic levels,
  • access to cars and by road, as well as
  • hospitals, schools and tertiary education institutions as trip generators.

Such data assists with identifying gaps and duplication in transport services and assets, as well as supplementing feedback from community consultation.

Country Transport Resource Kit

The Country Transport Database complements information available in this Kit which provides a wide range of  resources and case studies of transport development initiatives in country areas.

Regional Transport Coordinators are now placed in all regions of NSW and work to improve transport services for people falling into a range of transport disadvantaged groups – including frail-aged, people with disabilities, those with an Aboriginal or CALD background, youth and those living in remote or isolated areas.
