E-Dialogues for Sustainable Development Website

The E-Dialogues Project is a research initiative of the Royal Roads University, Canada, using online dialogue to explore sustainable development issues and inform the policy development process.

Royal Roads University, Victoria, BC Canada, is partnering with the Public Policy Forum and the Policy Research Initiative to conduct a series of real-time electronic dialogues to stimulate public policy discussion and, in the future, influence public policy on sustainable development.

the Objectives are to:
  • stimulate dialogue around critical sustainable development issues
  • use and evaluate electronic dialogue as a tool to increase literacy, both scientific and social, around specific sustainable development issues
  • determine if e-Dialogues can inform public policy development
  • determine the efficacy of this medium for building points of consensus for governments.

Ultimately, the vision is to have listeners who would 'tune in' to an e-dialogue, as you would tune into a radio program.

Topics of the e-dialogues held to date include:

Research Dialogues: climate change, social capital, sustainable communities, nuclear waste management

Curriculum-linked dialogues: sustainable community development, spirituality and sustainable development, cosmology and education, leadership, economics of green buildings

For each e-dialogue topic on the website you can access:

  • The complete dialogue
  • Dialogue summary
  • Background readings
  • The panellists and their biographies.
