WorkVentures Connect -Neighbourhood Technology Centres on Public Housing Estates
WorkVentures Connect is a multi-sector network of Neighbourhood Technology Centres (NTCs) located on public housing estates.
The program aims eventually to extend the NTCs to housing estates throughout Australia.
WorkVentures Connect will help bridge the digital divide and build better communities by enabling public housing residents who do not have computers or access to computers to:
- Access and make use of computer applications, email and Internet information in a client-focussed 'friendly' environment.
- Utilise Information Technology, through training and education, to apply newly acquired skills as a tool to assist them to build better lives through the ability to identify real opportunities, by knowing how to access information quickly, easily and in a cost effective way.
- Access Job Search assistance and referral to local Job Network services.
- Skills development pathways for those who seek training in network administration, logistics, user support, and electronics/PC maintenance.
- Training and education programs in computer use and knowledge for public housing residents relevant to the needs of the local labour market.
- Small business advice and development to use their new and developing computer skills to reframe local difficulties and challenges and providing new solutions to community problems.
