The Aboriginal Hunter Gateway Website is a portal site driven by the indigenous community of the Hunter aimed at providing access for their people to a wide range of information and services specifically for aborigines.

The website is seen as an ideal tool to addressing some of the needs of the Hunter Aboriginal community, which are diverse but include the following:

• Need for accurate and accessible information on community and government services
• Need to showcase the regions rich Indigenous culture
• Need for an integrated approach to delivery of services and information
• Development of skills in information and technology
• Access to e-commerce tools such as the Internet and electronic mail (e-mail)

The websites key objectives are to provide:

• A single window access for the aboriginal community to government and community agencies providing information and services to aboriginal communities in the Hunter region
• Integrated e-commerce facilities available to aboriginal enterprises for on-line ordering and supply of products locally, nationally and internationally
• Educational and showcase areas providing information and resources on indigenous culture of the region.
