Young people in New South WalesA brief overview based on the 1996 census statistics available from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. 1996 census statistics show that one third of Australia's young people, more than 1.2 million people aged 12 to 25 years, lived in NSW.
15.8% of NSW young people (190,193) were born overseas. The largest groups were born in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the Phillipines, Lebanon and Korea. There are more young Aboriginal people in NSW than in any other state or territory. Young people make up 20% of the NSW population.
