The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is Australia's official statistical organisation and it provides a high quality national statistical service.

The ABS website provides information (based on the census and other data gathering) about the Australian population's social, economic and environmental situation.

The website includes information on:

•  the ABS and its role
•  the main statistical features of many current ABS publications
• other summary statistics.

 Of particular interest to community builders is the information regarding the ABS Library Extension Program which lists over 500 libraries that are provided with complete collections of ABS published material.
