Understand Your Community
This module provides a guide to getting started in community building and is divided into two topics:
Each topic provides practical resources, case studies and related reading.
Before acting on an issue, it's important to have as much background information as possible. Communities are built in many different ways, so it helps if you have a vision of what you want your community to be so that you can take steps to make it happen. You need to know about contacts, how to identify your community's needs and strengths and how to use existing information and data.
Identifying needs & strengths
Before acting on an issue it is important to have good background information.
This topic provides resources and techniques on how to identify the needs and strengths of your community through consultation, surveys, community profiles and how to document this clearly.
Using statistics & data
You'll need to use research, statistics and data to analyse your community and strengthen your case. This topic provides links to key sources of statistics and tips and techniques on how to use them successfully.

The IMB Community Foundation is operated by the IMB to show tangible support for the communities
in which the IMB operates. Each year, depending on the performance of the IMB,
the IMB decideds on annual allocations of funds to the IMB Community Foundation.
The Foundation then donates funds for community projects that reflect its objectives,
which include enhancing the self-sufficiency of communities, as well as generating
economic, social, cultural, environmental, tourism and educational benefits
for those communities.
