Deductible Gift Registry – Harm Prevention Charitable Institutions

From 1 July 2003, the Commonwealth Department of Family & Community Services will maintain a register for charitable institutions whose principal activity is to promote the prevention or the control of behaviour that is harmful or abusive to human beings.

Charities can apply for entry to a tax deductible gift register – the Register of Harm Prevention Charitable Institutions – to assist them in obtaining financial support from the community for their activities. Entry on the Register assists charities to attract public support by making donations and gifts to those charities tax deductible.

Follow this link to the ATO website for more information about the new legislation (opens in a new browser window)
