Bachelor in Community Management (BCM)

Designed specifically for people from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, 2008 will be the 16th year that Macquarie University Community Management Program has run.

Since 1995 there have been more than 160 people graduate from the course. Over this time the backgrounds of the participants have included people who work in Indigenous community-base settings such as Local Land Councils, health centres, etc, public servants, and self-employed and private sector employees.

The course is available in block release.

This means you can study at Uni AND stay in your job and in your community.  It is a three-year course with four on-campus sessions each year, with on-campus accommodation, travel and all meals provided.  Tutorial assistance is available on-campus and in your community.  Work and study with Indigenous students from all over Australia.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Islander background.  Aged 21 years or older and having sufficient literacy to handle the course readings and resources.  Priority will be given to those who have relevant work and life experience.

OUTCOMES INCLUDE:

Increased personal confidence from succeeding at Uni. Graduates report improved employment opportunities and successes.  One third of all graduates go on to further tertiary studies (often at Masters level).  Local Community Development projects based on ideas, skills and contacts learnt and made through the course.
