Working with Aboriginal People and Communities: A practical resourceA guide for all community services and relevant non-ogvernment organisation staff, particularly field staff.
This resource has been developed by the NSW Department of Community Services to improve service delivery to Aboriginal people by providing staff with key facts, and information relevant to working with Aboriginal communities in NSW. This resource will help staff to become more culturally aware and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal people and communities. Staff in community services and NGOs may find it difficult to build open and trusting relationships with Aboriginal people and vice versa. This can often be attributed to a lack of cultural understanding or a lack of awareness of effective practice techniques. This resourse will help staff to break down these barriers by offering practical advice and solutions. A number of NSW DoCS regions as well as several other government agencies have created their own practice guides for working with Aboriginal people and communities. In developing this practical resource, the best elements of existing practices have been combined to provide a consistent approach to working with Aboriginal people and communities. Visit the Department of Community Services website to download the resource. index by content type | index by date | index by region |
