Non-profit Sector in a Changing Economy

This Report from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) covers new trends in the non-profit sector, reviews the sector in a number of countries and provides tools to finance monitor and evaluate the sector.

Drawing on contributions from leading experts and academics, this review, assessment and practical resource is supported by statistical data.

It covers the non-profit sector in the EU countries, the US, Canada, Mexico and Australia.

It is for policy makers, practitioners, academics and the corporate sector.

Recent socio-economic trends, welfare state reform; the emergence of civil society and democracy have highlighted the growing significance of the non-profit sector – a sector between state and market – often associated with concepts such as ‘social economy’, ‘third sector’, ‘voluntary sector’, ‘third system’, ‘independent sector’ and, more recently, ‘social entrepreneurship’.

This sector is facing a number of crucial new challenges such as management quality whilst both maintaining the sector's unique social dimension and fostering social innovation.

The book is in 3 parts which cover:

  1. The Non-profit Sector Today
  2. Financing the Non-profit Sector: Obstacles and Opportunities
  3. Evaluating the Non-profit Sector: New Challenges
