A web based service providing management support and assistance to community based, not for profit, non government organisations.

Management Support Online (MSO)

MSO gives members of management committees, staff and volunteers:

·       a comprehensive range of information and resources on all aspects of governance, management and operations

·        self directed training programs to build the core skills of members of management and staff

·       step by step guides and work programs for reviewing, implementing change and solving problems

·       practical tools and pro formas that can be downloaded and adapted to meet individual organisational needs

·        links to a wide range of national and international sites and key contacts

·        confidential advice and assistance with management and operational problems

 

Who is behind the MSO?

 

The MSO was developed by Bradfield Nyland Group, a consultancy company specialising in not for profit or community management, organisational development and capacity building for communities and non government organisations.

 

Jane Bradfield and Julie Nyland, Directors and principal consultants have a long history of working with the non government sector. This history includes work as community sector practitioners, educators and trainers, public sector program administrators and researchers.

 

The work of Bradfield Nyland Group has included the development of a number of training programs, good practice guides and resource kits dealing with good governance, community management and a broad range not for profit operational issues.  The MSO team combines diverse expertise and practical experience, specialising in community management and organisational building for the not for profit sector in Australia.

 

MSO is a virtual 'help desk'

 

The MSO was developed to address the specific needs of community based organisations for a comprehensive support service. The design and content of the MSO is based on extensive work conducted with a range of community organisations over a number of years.

 

The MSO service is unique in that it acts as a ‘one stop shop’ or virtual ‘help desk’ for the running of a community based organisation. The service provides a number of types of assistance, across the core aspects of management, governance, operation and administration. It has the capacity to complement face to face assistance, and provide affordable and accessible assistance, particularly where assistance may otherwise not be available.

 

On the MSO site, subscribers can:

·        obtain confidential, expert advice and support with organisational problems or issues

·        access online skill development and training programs, selecting topics that are relevant as they are needed, and bringing training into the organisation in a flexible and immediate way

·        use guided activities for staff and management committee or board members to work through complex tasks directly relevant to their organisational needs, set up systems or review and improve aspects of the operation of the organisation

·        access specific tools that can be easily adapted rather than ‘re-creating the wheel’

·        find information quickly and access links to other specific information points easily

·       apply information and resources within the organisation in practical and immediate ways that improve organisational operation
