ATO Checklist for NFP Employers

The Australian tax Office (ATO) has released a new checklist to help Not for Profit organisations understand their tax and superannuation obligations in relation to workers.

The checklist covers employees, independent contractors and volunteers.

The ATO says the status of NFP workers may affect the tax treatment of transactions between your organisation and the individual.

The new checklist will help NFP organisations to understand and meet their tax and superannuation obligations:

  • when a new worker starts
  • during the period of engagement, and
  • when a worker leaves.

The checklist is available at the ATO's recently updated Employees, volunteers and other workers web page.

The web page also includes links to tools such as the Tax withheld calculator, tax tables and specific information on pay as you go withholding, fringe benefits tax and superannuation. You can visit the page here.
