2008 NSW Seniors Week Grants

Program summary

NSW Seniors Week Grants are provided through the NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (DADHC) to assist the development and/or organisation of local NSW Seniors Week projects.

DADHC offers two categories of grant funding for NSW Seniors Week projects:

  • Up to $500
  • $1,000

 DADHC is seeking projects or activities that promote some of the following Seniors Week objectives:

  • Celebrate older people and their continuing contribution to family, friends, workplaces and communities
  • Demonstrate that older age can be a time of learning and adventure
  • Provide enjoyable opportunities for getting together, both with older people and across the generations
  • Promote and celebrate the cultural diversity of older people in our communities
  • Promote Seniors Week throughout NSW, including regional areas
  • Encourage community participation in the development and implementation of community-based programs/projects
  • Encourage older people to live healthy and active lifestyles.

Who can apply?

All applicants must be from either a local government organisation, non-profit organisation or a community group that is either an association under the Associations Incorporation Act, a co-operative society under the Co-operatives Act, a company limited by guarantee under the Companies Code or any other incorporated group.

Non-incorporated groups can also apply for a NSW Seniors Week Grant, but will need to ask an incorporated group to sponsor and manage the grant on their behalf.

Who can't apply?

Community organisations operating on a for-profit basis are not eligible for a NSW Seniors Week Grant.

What will be funded?

1. NSW-based and during NSW Seniors Week 2008

All projects or activities must be located within New South Wales and must be conducted during NSW Seniors Week (6-13 April 2008).

2. Community involvement

Your project must clearly identify and address community involvement and must show that your project will be of direct benefit to the local community.

3. Acquittal of past grants

Your organisation must have acquitted any previous NSW Seniors Week Grants received from DADHC that were due for acquittal. Organisations that have not met previous acquittal requirements will not be eligible for funding.

4. New element

If your organisation has received a Seniors Week Grant in the past, you must indicate how you plan to include a new element to your project.

5. Applications must contribute and show relevance to the NSW Seniors Week 2008 objectives

6. Applicants must include project details and a complete budget for implementation with their application

7. Applications for $1,000 must be matched by the organisation with their own resources

Your organisation must match DADHC funding with your own resources; this can include sponsorship, cash contributions or in-kind contributions such as venue hire, catering and administration costs.

8. Applicants must be covered by Public Liability Insurance

Your organisation must be covered by Public Liability Insurance to the value of at least $10,000,000. If your organisation is not covered, you will need to approach another organisation to sponsor your application so that your event will be covered under their Public Liability Insurance.

9. Number of applications

Only one application for funding will be accepted per organisation.

What will NOT be funded?

Some activities are ineligible for funding under the 2008 NSW Seniors Week Grants Program. Grants will not be awarded to support the following:

  • Any activity of a commercial nature that is for personal profit
  • Capital works i.e. building work
  • Permanent salaries/wages (temporary tutors for this project can be included)
  • Permanent equipment purchases
  • General operating expenses
  • Events that encourage gambling, such as bingo, or the consumption of alcohol.
