Tibetan Community Ctr - who do we talk to?

A number of us are involved in setting up a Tibetan Community Centre to the Northern Beaches where the majority of Sydney's of Tibetan refugees live. The details of the project can be found:-

The project is fairly well advanced with business plans, fundraising, etc and a lot of the service are being provided already; what is lacking is a place where the activities may occur, a place that individuals may identify with and develop a sense of belonging and community. The centre aims not simply to help the Tibetan community but the general community as well via meditation, social work, counselling, and support in general.

We are wondering who do we approach first for government funding, where are the forms, and what level of assistance is out there? Do we approach Housing NSW or the local councils or the Commonwealth Govt?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

hi Jamie25

i am from the UK and i have found that a community garden works very well! i work for a Housing Association and we have given land that is not being used to some of the local community groups and they have converted them into food growing areas. The groups have raised funding towards the garden and we have also part funded the projects. it does seem to bring a community together and help towards sustaining that community! they can be both fun and educational for kids and some of the beds have been allocated to local schools and childrens centers - we even have the local Wildlife Trust on board so they can deliver training to the local population.

hope it is going well!

Afternoon all again,
In reply to James Carr I am sorry,BUT I dont agree with some of your comments and I feel that you must reside in Metro Australia and not like myself in RURAL NSW.
Out here where we are located there are many companies who would likwe to sponsor a Community Radio station like ours and others out here,BUT with us having been in drought,it seems that our metro cousins just dont really care or worry about it.
I have contacted and as has our Publicity Officer contacted many BIG companies,BUT as they are in Metro areas, they dont consider us to be able to cover their products, well how wrong they are.
Our Volunteer Community radio Station gets alot of web viewing and its only in the past 6 months that we have gone futher afield,BUT again our Metro cousins dont care.
In New South Wales NSW stands for Newcastle Sydney Woolongong and if one goes over the Blue Mounts then who cares. We have to fight for what we want and need.
Also basically we are now living within our means and all that is required for us to be a self relaint force is for us to be able to get a grant to be able to get some solar power and also a relaible news bulletin relayed to us,BUT they cost money, which we dont have.

Thanks again for your views.

Other options you could try are [www.freelancer.com] or [www.whirlpool.net.au]. You haven't mentioned whether you are asking for help free of charge or for payment?

Another option I have seen work well is to contact your local university or graphic design college. You could pop an ad on their notice board.

There are many web developers looking for work, so I'm sure if you clarify the above question people will forward your request to friends and colleagues.
