Home > Events Calendar > Changing Communities & Organisations - One Meeting at a TimeWhere: SydneyWhen: 22 October 2008Based on a transformational approach to community development and organisational change called Future Search - described by City of Sydney staff as "extraordinary", a UN Coordinator as "exceptional", a Northern Ireland Permanent Secretary as "powerful" and the Kings Cross Business Chair as "brilliant".
The Future Search approach is based on the idea that despite the awesome benefits of modern technology, the best approach to community development and change remains face to face meetings of a diverse group of stakeholders - called the 'whole system'. (Modern technology can supplement but never replace such meetings.) This workshop will help you develop your community through becoming a better leader of meetings from regular 1 hour small group meetings right through to 2 day one off large group meetings. What makes the Workshop SO different and powerful is that it does not focus on revealing hidden agendas OR fixing anybody’s behaviour OR diagnosing group or individual needs. Rather, it focuses on the only 2 things that a leader of meetings can truly control –- THE MEETING’S STRUCTURE and YOUR OWN ANXIETY — hence the name Don’t Just Do Something, Stand There! Some praise for the Future Search approach: “An exceptional approach that renews one’s faith in the utility of meetings and the positive power of effective groups…” – Joanne Burke, Coordinator, UN Capacity for Disaster Risk Reduction Initiative “The energy and enthusiasm generated in the large group meeting was extraordinary.” – City of Sydney “I have never seen such a meeting produce such positive outcomes, goodwill and energy.” – Dee Anderson, CEO, U@MQ, Macquarie University. “If only every facilitator worked like this, we would all sign up to attend meetings rather than avoid them!” – Judy Schector, Director, Developing Leadership in Reducing Substance Abuse "Brilliant" - Malcom Gunning, Chair, Kings Cross Business Partnership; CEO, Gunning Commercial For more information download Brochure and Registration Form or go to Community Development Approach (linked to futuresearch.net.au/meeting-leadership-workshop)
