From Margins to Mainstream: 5th World Conference on the Promotion of Mental Health and the Prevention of Mental and Behavioral Disorders

Where: Melbourne Convention Centre

When: 10 September 2008 - 12 September 2008

The conference will highlight activities that contribute to promoting individual and community mental health and wellbeing. The conference also aims to show the mental health and wider community that the promotion of mental health and the prevention of mental illness is no longer on the margins of the health debate. Instead, it is integrated into mainstream areas of research, policy and practice, across many diverse sectors, such as the arts, sports, housing, justice, education, employment, health and others.

What kind of sessions are there?

There are currently nine plenary sessions. The keynote speakers at these sessions will be invited by those organising the conference.

There are one hundred and nineteen seminar speaker slots currently available. Every seminar presenter speaks for 15 minutes with an additional five minutes for question time. Some sessions go for an hour and a half, others for only an hour. You may, with others, submit on the same topic for an entire session, perhaps as a panel.

There is also currently space for twenty workshop presenters, at about 30 minutes in length, and sixty oral posters, which go for five minutes each. When you submit, there is space on the form to indicate which you prefer, if applicable.

Conference costs

Prices for attending the conference range from Early Bird (AU$480.00), through to Full Price (AU$600), Late Bird (AU$696) and on-site (AU$768). There are also day registrations and student discounts for each of these categories, and group discounts available for all but the on-site category. Guest Speakers

Each update will feature some more guest speakers for the “From Margins to Mainstream” conference.
