Mums Against Drugs (West Lake Macquarie)

Information and contact details about the Community Drug Action Team and links to projects and activities.

Overview

The Mums Against Drugs CDAT was formed in 2004 when a local child received a needle stick injury.  The Team meets on the last Friday of the month from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon at 19a Threlkeld St Bolton Point.

What we're doing

Consistent with the principles of the Community Drug Action Strategy, Mums Against Drugs is committed to working in partnership with agencies, community representatives and government, to:

  • Identify alcohol and other drug issues;
  • Educate the community about relevant issues; and
  • Implement appropriate collaborative projects.

The group is currently involved in the MADTIME project. Young people gather at the Bolton Point Hall on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 pm onwards and the MUMS provide activities and healthy food. Activities include sports, games, dancing, arts and craft and the young people are encouraged to eat fruit and other healthy foods. Agency representatives and other support services are also encouraged to attend and interact with the young people.

The need for the project was identified from the Gathering project which involved a series of camps for mums and children, young girls, young boys and men organised by the CDAT in 2004/05.
