Drug Action Week 2006 - Report
This report outlines the activities undertaken by Community Drug Action Teams and the Community Drug Strategies for Drug Action Week 2006.
Drug Action Week is an annual awareness raising initiative of the Alcohol and Other Drug Council of Australia (ADCA) and is supported by the NSW Government. The week aims to promote the achievements of those who work to reduce drug and alcohol related harm In NSW, Community Drug Action Teams (CDATs) play an important role in generating publicity for this initiative by holding community events that raise awareness about alcohol and other drug issues. This year a total of 30 CDAT initiated events took place across the state including public forums, youth discos, information stalls, community BBQ’s, school alcohol and other drug sessions, rock concerts, movie nights, a primary school colouring-in competition and a services expo. Deputy Director General of NSW Health’s strategic development, Dr Richard Matthews commended the work of CDATs throughout NSW. He said: “There is a clear need for a range of responses to the complex problem of drug and alcohol misuse. “CDATs play an important part in combating these problems and the harm caused not only to those misusing alcohol and drugs but to their families, friends and communities who also bear part of the burden.” To read about just some of the activities CDAT undertook during Drug Action Week 2006, click on the links below:
