STI Prevention Program: Sexual Health Campaign

The increase in STIs in young people is so concerning that the Australian Government has developed a new National STI Prevention Program: Sexual Health Campaign to raise young people’s awareness about the risks of infection and to generate a sense of personal responsibility to help prevent the spread of STIs.

What form does the campaign take?

• As part of a national awareness campaign, a mix of communication channels are being used to reach young Australians including advertising in magazines, on radio, online and outdoors, and resource kits distributed to schools and stakeholders.
• The campaign aims to inform young Australians about the transmission, symptoms, treatment and most importantly, prevention of STIs, including the need to always use a condom.
• The campaign also encourages young people who have had unprotected sex to see a doctor or sexual health clinic about getting tested.
