Community Partnerships Kit

A resource for groups wishing to undertake community action to prevent illicit drug use or address use where it occurs.

The Community Partnerships Kit was commissioned as part of the Community Partnerships Initiative of the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care. Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre in Melbourne undertook the development of the kit and the associated web site.

About the kit

The Kit is based on a Community Action Model. This model promotes both a guiding philosophy and a process for building community partnerships in response to drug-related problems. The kit provides information that will assist groups to get started, plan and implement, and evaluate a community partnerships initiative. The kit will provide both a record of community activities around illicit drug issues, and a rich, constantly growing resource for communities to use.

The site information is arranged under the following headings:

  • Community Action Model
  • Libary
  • Links
  • Toolbox
  • Workbook
  • Case Studies
  • Projects

The interactive functions of the web site are attached to the Library. This ensures that the library continues to build on up-to-date information from a range of sources. Users of the web site can search for case studies, references and contact information that is useful to them, or add information that may be shared by others.

Some of the individuals and groups who may find this kit useful include:

  • parent, resident, school and tertiary education groups
  • health, welfare and youth organisations
  • Federal, State and Local Government
  • drug user organisations
  • religious and spiritual groups
  • police and those working in the corrections area
  • cultural groups, for example indigenous organisations and ethno-specific groups
  • community and service groups, and local trade associations.
