Place management - fad or future?

In Australia, and across the world, the search is on for new institutions and habits of public governance that can respond to the...forces of globalisation...combine the 'grunt' of old, industrial forms of bureaucracy and mass-production with the 'grace' of newer, more nimble and responsive institutions...and mediate the need for freedom and order, the spectre of scarcity, the importance of both individual liberty and community, in an environment whose political, social and economic foundations seem suddenly so shaky.

After a couple of hundred years of modernism, we are searching for institutions and systems of government and governance that fit, and will work well in, a post-modern world. Place management is right in the middle of that search.

A presentation to an Open Forum of the Institute of Public Administration Australia (NSW Division) by Martin Stewart-Weeks, Albany Consulting Group.
