NSW Youth Participation Survey

In 2004 the NSW Youth Advisory Council conducted a survey of young people in NSW aged 12-25, asking them how they participate, or how they would like to participate, in shaping their own lives and the life of their community.

Around 2,400 young people throughout NSW responded to the survey, which aims to provide information on:

• the current level and type of participation for young people in NSW;
• the type of activities which young people in NSW would like to participate in;
• why young people choose to participate;
• what would make it easier for young people to participate; and
• young people's knowledge of current Government participation mechanisms.

This information will help the NSW Government develop ways of working together with young people, local government, businesses and community organisations to improve opportunities for young people’s participation in NSW.
