Bring It! Young Carers Forum 08 Final Report

The Bring It! Young Carers Forum was designed to discuss the needs and concerns of the 380,000 young carers under the age of 26 in Australia, and the future directions that can be taken to ensure their wellbeing.

The Bring It! Forum Report brings together the large amount of information exchanged over the two days of the forum. It highlights key messages and directions for the future that will assist young carers to identify, care, study, work and access support.

The report suggests strategies to improve opportunities for young carers including:

• legislation to recognise and protect the rights of young carers
• revised approaches to service provision
• training for staff in appropriate departments
• awareness-raising and education campaigns
• increased identification
• improved policies and guidelines
• support that enables caring to be a choice
• equal access to appropriate services
• partnerships with education providers.
