Mentors Supporting Local Youth. The NSW Active Retirees & Mentors Inc. has been running this program in NSW since 2001 and the South Western Sydney sub-committee has been running it in their local area since 2002.
South Western Sydney A.R.M Inc. (S.W.A.M.) was set up to support the "Plan it Youth" mentoring program which is run through the NSW Department of Education in the high schools across the state. The mentors are all volunteers who mentor one on one for an hour a week. We help the students who are having problems in general at school, in class and with their school work. We listen to their problems and help them build their self esteem and self confidence. We assist with writting resumes but our main aim is to keep them in school. We do all this by forming a trust worthy freindship. We need more people willing to volunteer their time so we can help more students. There is a training course which is paid for. S.W.A.M Has a meeting bymonthly and a Christmas party at the end of the year. For further information
