Learning Circles

For over 100 years Learning Circles have proven an effective and practical method of learning and social change. Community organisations, trade unions, churches and social justice groups have used them to empower their members to make choices and take action.

In a Learning circle, groups of around 5 - 15 people meet regularly to learn about and discuss issues of importance to them and society.

They learn at their own pace, drawing on their own experiences and understandings, without a lecturer or an expert 'running' the show'.

iEARN Learning Circles Website

Started in 1988, iEARN is the world's largest non-profit global network that enables teachers and young people to use the Internet and other new technologies to collaborate on projects that both enhance learning and make a difference in the world.  The iEARN Learning Circles Website provides practical tools, examples and opportunities to participate in Learning Circles.

Toolkit for Local Reconciliation Groups

The Toolkit contains information to help individuals and groups at various stages of involvement with reconciliation.  It will assist people who want to start a local reconciliation group or sustain or grow an existing group.  Most of the material is very practical, with lots of ‘how to’ information and tips - how to decide your priorities, how to prepare a media release , how to set up a learning circle etc.

Crime Prevention and Community Safety Learning Circles

The Attorney-General's Department website provides a guide that is designed to help the learning circle facilitator. It outlines things you need to know about your role, covers some practical issues that may come up in your group and provides a step-by step guide to helping the group decide what to focus on.
