Southern Cross Cultural Exchange

Expand your family’s horizons and make a friend for life. Unlike a border, the student participates as one of the family, including helping with chores, following house rules, and joining in the fun. SCCE is a non-profit organisation with 24 years experience in exchange programs. Hosting is voluntary and students bring their own spending money as well as being covered for medical and educational expenses.

S.C.C.E. is approved and registered with Australia federal and state Education Departments, and recognised by immigration and education authorities around the world, reflecting an excellent worldwide reputation and recogniton of a high standard of quality programs.

Being Australia’s first organisation based in Australia, S.C.C.E has an unique ability to respond to the needs of Australian education and the ability to innovate, diversify and adapt programs and procedures. Programs, from 4 weeks to 10 months, reflect the requirements and values of Australian students, families, and schools.

Support for Participants

S.C.C.E. and its overseas affiliates give security by having available professional staff with many years experience in the field of intercultural exchange. The staff members are qualified in education, counselling, travel and administration.

Trained Local Representatives who enhance the exchange experience for students and host families. Working together, the staff and Representatives make a 24-hour global network available.

Programs

Currently there are year long programs, semseter long programs and Summerprograms that are for 2-3 months.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering as a Local Coordinator could change your life!

You will be the facilitator for opening doors for teenagers in your community. Doors they didn't even know existed. To rooms full of

  • people with a different approach to life
  • teenagers speaking another language
  • necessities which become luxuries and vice versa
  • history and literature coming alive
  • unanticipated future opportunities

You will be the curtain-raiser for local families in your community. Get them to take a look at

  • bringing the family together to offer hospitality
  • what your community has to offer
  • other nationalities' view of the world and Australia
  • how others set priorities: education, travel, health, etc.
  • all those things shared: sports, music, school triumphs, family meals
  • the need for tolerance of differences, understanding to bring about world harmony.

As a Local Coordinator you are the most vital link in the exchange experience, by providing support and guidance to Host Families and Exchange Students.
