Barani, an Indigenous history of the city of SydneyBarani is an interactive, searchable website about Sydney's Indigenous history from earliest pre-contact times to most recent events.
Barani is an Aboriginal word of the Eora, the original inhabitants of the place where Sydney City now stands. It means 'yesterday'. But the name Barani reminds us that there has been a continued Indigenous presence in Sydney. Like everyone in the city, the Indigenous citizens' story encompasses past, present and future. Barani, part of the Sydney City Council website, has won the NSW Premier's 2002 History Award in the audio-visual category. The judges stated that Barani is well thought through, seeking to align two goals:
Barani includes:
Historians, Dr Anita Heiss and Terri McCormack, the Indigenous web design group Cyberdreaming, and Sydney City Council's own webteam and history program worked collaboratively to create Barani. Follow this link for the Barani website (opens in a new browser window) For further information
