Advice on Aboriginal Education

The NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) Inc is an Aboriginal incorporated community-based organisation made up of volunteers in Local and Regional AECGs throughout the State.

Aboriginal Education is about both equitable outcomes for Aboriginal students and educating all students about Aboriginal Australia. Aboriginal education is fundamental to reconciliation. Reconciliation through Community Education is educating all Australians.

The NSW AECG Inc:-

  • provides community-based advice to the NSW Minister for Education and Training on Aboriginal education and training in NSW
  • is a partner with DET - NSW Department of Education and Training (government schools and TAFE; pre-schools; vocational education and training, adult and community education, universities)
  • is closely involved with the training and development process for implementing the Aboriginal Education Policy in DET schools
  • partners with NSW Board of Studies, Catholic Education Commission, Aboriginal early childhood and higher education networks, Aboriginal independent providers, all agencies involved in education and training
  • with the Commonwealth Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs, monitors National Indigenous Education Policy funding in NSW
  • is represented on policy and program committees in all sectors of education and training.

The NSW AECG Inc provides advice on:

  • appropriate training for all educational professionals
  • curriculum development
  • development of resources and teaching materials
  • the impact of health and social issues on Aboriginal education and training
  • networking information relating to Aboriginal education and training
  • research, studies and projects, 'on Aboriginal education and training
