Social Entrepreneurship Monitor 2006 Report (UK)The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor(GEM) has developed a measurement of early stage entrepreneurial activity by means of an adult population survey in each country.
Individual respondents are asked whether or not they are setting up a business venture, which is less than three months old, whether or not they are running a business entity and if they are, for how long they have been doing it. GEM UK is based on a survey of 42,500 adults and asks respondents whether they have set up an entity, activity or venture for social or community purposes, or are running such a venture, and for how long they have been doing this. The 2006 report found that the rate of social entreprenuership is higher amongst the youngest age group, 18-24 years, than any other age group. There is also a smaller gap between male and female entrepreneurship for socially oriented ventures than for mainstream ones.
