Mutual Benefit: Community/Business Partnerships in the Disability SectorMutual Benefit is the report of research conducted by ACROD, the National Industry Association for Disability Services, into community and business partnerships in the disability sector.
In the first study of its kind in Australia, ACROD surveyed nearly 8,500 partnerships between community groups and commercial businesses. The aim of the research was to provide information about the range of existing partnerships and about ways of fostering the growth of new partnerships where none exist. A striking finding of the survey is the sheer variety of forms that partnerships can take. Many of the partnerships result in recruiting and training of employees with disabilities for commercial ventures. Examples include managing coffee shops, training public transport staff, maintaining fire fighting hoses and processing foods. Other partnerships can assist organisations to design websites, journals and advertising campaigns.
