Indigenous Stock ExchangeThe ISX strategy was initiated in Canberra on May 21, 2003 on Ngunawal territory. The goal was to support the development of as many Indigenous businesses as possible in an effort to meet the urgent need for jobs for Indigenous young people especially in regional, remote and very remote Australia.
Three trading floors have been held over the past 3 years - at Mossman in North Queensland, Broome in Western Australia and Shepparton in Victoria. Since the Victorian Trading Floor, the focus has moved to the promotion of a virtual trading floor. In 2005 the ISX has focused its efforts on using the website as a highly efficient and cheap 24 hour a day, 7 day a week means of promoting and celebrating Indigenous social, cultural and commercial enterprise. The ISX has also linked up with Earthshare's e-give so that Indigenous organisations can receive donations and sponsorship directly on-line. The ISX runs primarily on voluntary labor. All the revenue raised for each trading floor goes to Indigenous organisations first or to the must-have technical expertise to make webcasting and video conferencing possible. On the online "trading floor" participants can put forward their needs for investment, mentoring and other forms of support. ISX does not attempt to restrict those who want to put their ideas on to the trading floor, but recommend that, if you are serious about gaining support, that you put a lot of effort into your on-line presentation and, if you are are a commercial operation, that you seek a micro-navigator rating that indicates your level of business readiness.
