Eco-friendly Communities - Promoting Sustainable Living and Working Resource Kit

This practical kit is a package of resources and suggestions for a structured but very flexible program to increase community understanding about living sustainably.

The kit has been developed for use by Neighbourhood Centres but will have uses in other settings.

The kit is divided into 5 sections:
  • Section 1: How to be an eco-friendly centre
  • Section 2: How to encourage eco-friendly people
  • Section 3: How to be part of an eco-friendly community
  • Section 4: Evaluation, environmental contacts and grants
  • Section 5: Additional resources

The kit is part of a project that aims to increase the knowledge of people and communities involved with Neighbourhood Centres so that they can work together to:

  • identify ways of living and working sustainably
  • identify    environmental issues such as waste, water, energy, chemicals, biodiversity and air
  • understand pollution and what can be done about it
  • learn how to get involved in community environmental projects.

Everyone involved in the project will be encouraged to make an ongoing commitment to take action, individually and within their community, to encourage sustainable ways of living.

This kit was the result of a partnership between the Local Community Services Association (LCSA) and the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA).

The project was funded by the NSW Government through the following programs:

  • Our Environment – It’s a Living Thing
  • The Urban Stormwater Trust
  • The Litter Prevention Program
