International Symposium of Volunteering - 2001 Report

Held in Geneva, November 2001, the Conference wrapped up the International Year of Volunteers and planned future action.

The Year served to highlight the achievements of millions of volunteers worldwide as well as provide a platform for people to engage in volunteer activity. 126 IYV National and Regional Committees were set up to implement the Year's four objectives: recognition, facilitation, networking and promotion of volunteering.

The International Symposium on Volunteering (ISV 2001) enabled those involved in volunteerism to present and evaluate experiences and lessons learned throughout the Year.

More than 550 participants from 126 countries attended the event. Their presentations form the basis of this Symposium Report. In turn, this report will serve as an important contribution to the report to be presented to the United Nations General Assembly in 2002 on IYV 2001.

The symposium brings together a wealth of information on international volunteering. There are over 500 original presentations, speeches and abstracts, cross-linked to related documents, participants, and Symposium images.
