Improving Employee Volunteer Programs - a View from Both Sides by Hayley Hext

Commissioned by Philanthropy Australia, this report explores the realities of corporate employee volunteering from the perspective of both corporate and non-profit organisations.

The overall aim of the Report is to publish an article that will assist corporate and non-profit organisations in improving their volunteer programs ensuring better outcomes for all involved.

The overall research questions are:

• What are the real benefits and challenges of employee volunteering?
• What can both corporate and non-profit organisations do to improve the employee volunteer experience for all involved?

In general the most important issues and challenges have been categorised into five themes that include:

• the role of volunteering in establishing and maintaining significant long term multi-dimensional partnerships
• written agreements and setting expectations
• finance and resource issues, finding suitable volunteering opportunities
• employee motivation and
• education of non-profit aims
