Taking Participation Seriously – a practical resource kit for involving children and young people

A kit providing practical advice on how to involve children and young people in activities, events, decision-making, meetings, boards and committees.

The kit (available online and in hard copy) was produced by the NSW Commission for Children and Young People.

Children and young people helped develop all sections of the kit, providing their ideas, experiences, feedback and piloting the resources before publication.

It is made up of different parts that focus on how you can involve children and young people in different activities or areas of work.

The TAKING PARTicipation seriously Kit includes:

• Sharing the Stage helps organisations involve young people in decision-making.
• Conference and Events has lots of ideas for helping kids play a meaningful role before, during and after events so everyone benefits from their participation.
• Count me in! looks at how organisations can involve children and young people in research. 
• Meeting together – deciding together has lots of practical ideas and exercises to make it easier for adults to help children and young people ‘have a say’ in meetings.
• All aBoard! covers all the things you need to know to get young people involved on your board or committee
• Checking the Scoreboard helps you get feedback from both staff and children and young people
• Useful research and resources about participation
