Community Engagement in the NSW Planning System: Handbook and Website

A single, comprehensive, easy to read source of reference for practitioners in the NSW planning and development system who are keen to improve the quality of community engagement at local, regional or State levels.

The Community Engagement in the NSW Planning System handbook and website were launched by the Deputy Premier, Andrew Refshauge MP on Monday 3 March 2003.

Community engagement is a core element of planFIRST - the Government's landmark reform of the planning system in NSW.

The handbook and interactive website provide planners and developers with comprehensive, easy-to-use tools, leading practice principles and practical stories from the field.

What you can do on the Community Engagement Website:
  • Find out about NSW plan making and development assessment processes including the planFIRST reforms to the planning system
  • Check out the leading practice principles that make engagement processes successful
  • Discover descriptions of commonly used engagement techniques
  • Follow a step-by-step model for designing, planning, organising, implementing and evaluating any process
  • Read stories and other resources about community engagement

The Community Engagement website is hosted by iplan, the NSW Government's Planning Information portal.
