Directory of Community Leadership Programs in NSW
Community Leadership Programs detailed in this directory provide for developing the skills of existing leaders; emerging youth leaders and emerging leaders from under-represented groups in the community.
The Community Leadership Programs Directory has been prepared by Lisa Andersen, Pauline O'Loughlin and Anette Salt, UTS Shopfront, for the Strengthening Communities Unit, NSW Premier's Department. December 2001.
The research to develop this Directory included: a literature review on relevant definitions of leadership; identification of key organisations and individuals involved in community leadership programs in NSW; development and distribution of a survey, The Directory is based on the programs identified by the survey.
Community Leadership programs identified in this research come under one or more of the following categories:
- Developing the skills of existing leaders - including business, community and government leaders - to enable them better cope with their existing responsibilities and/or to confidently take on new activities and responsibilities
- Developing the skills of emerging youth leaders
- Identifying and developing the skills of emerging leaders from under-represented groups in the community
- Networking activities that bring people together about local community issues
